Back Yard
I like the color and shape of this arbor. Seems a simple yet elegant design.
Rockler Bench Brackets
Brackets are made of 3/16'' thick steel and are 2'' wide for extreme strength and durability.

Mount 24'' to 36'' apart. Bench height is 15 - 3/4'', exclusive of bench material. Angled for comfort. Reinforcement brace included.

Built-in deck seating must be designed to carry a heavy load. The framing for the seating should be tied into a part of the deck designed to handle such weight. A perimeter bench is easy to build, and because it is supported by the railing posts, it doesn't require much extra lumber. Posts should be located no more than 3 feet apart to provide satisfactory support. Seating like this can line the entire perimeter of the deck, run along one side, or be placed in a corner. Use the same type of wood on the bench as on the decking and railing.

1. Attach bench supports

Bench supports should be bolted to the 4x4 railing posts. If posts are spaced more than 3 feet apart, bolt intermediate posts to the joist. The posts must be bolted securely to the deck framing, and blocking should be installed (see Installing Optional Railing Designs, Deck Upgrades). Use 3/8x7-inch machine bolts to attach a pair of 2x12 seat supports to each post. Cut supports 18 to 20 inches long and taper them for clearance beneath the bench.

2. Attach seat boards

Attach 5/4x6 decking across the top of the seat supports for the bench seat. Space them 1/4 inch apart and secure them with 2-1/2-inch decking screws. Trim the front edge with a 2x4 attached to the ends of the supports. If you install a bench in a corner, the corner seat supports will have to be longer. Install the 2x4 facing, mitering the ends. Then measure, cut, and install the corner supports. Sand the rough edges or round over the front edge with a router.
