Hardscape Year 2007
|
Last year came and went, and no work was accomplished on the front yard. But this year will be different right?
Actually with an early spring warm up, we have already made progress on the backyard fence surrounding the vegetable garden. So I have high hopes. If I can manage to accomplish getting the front yard patio and walkway in, build the backyard flowerbed rock border, and deck work, I will feel I have had a succesful year. |

My daffodil problem turned out to be impatience on my part. I got the first color, with an early blooming tulip - that was not the right color red. It clashes horribly with the orange-red of the quince bush! Now dainty white daffodils are in bloom. The back yard's daffodils in the rose garden are just gorgeous... a bright yellow that can't help but to bring a smile to your face. I have also begun to expand the flower bed in the backyard to make way for foundation plants that will give me height and winter interest. I want to include a flowering crabapple, bushes, and evergreens. And of course there is always the round of pruning, and edging. The lawn looks much nicer after I edged it. |

Received my first quote for the front yard hardscaping. K&K Construction has suggested instead of stamped concrete for the walkway and patio, to use Pavestone for a more unique look. Current Bid $3200 -- Pavestone Website Based on the retailer locater, you can get pavestone at Home Depot or even Walmart. I will need to go there to see how much I may need - and do a cost comparison. |

The bulbs from last fall have begun to come up. I see the daffodils in other yards blooming, but nothing yet from mine. The soil where I planted them is not the best... pretty full of clay and roots from the Evergreen removed. I have looked up reasons they may not bloom, and makes me think I need to vive them a little 5-10-10 fertilizer.
daffodils not blooming
If they don't bloom soon, will have to add them to the problem list.
