Square Foot Gardening: Building raised beds

The first set of plans for the garden included about 80 square feet of garden space among 4  4×4 raised planters, a 2×6 planter, and a 2×4 planter.  These just didn’t fit in the actual garden plot.

So what we have this year are:

3 – 4×4

1 –  2 x 6

Total Gardening Space:   60 square feet.

Not knowing how long I would use these beds, we chose plain pine 2 x 8’s.  My husband cut the wood to size ensuring to add an extra 1.5″ on either side to ensure the inside dimensions remained true to the 4×4 or 2×6 measure.  The boards were screwed together with galvanized 3″ screws.
