The spring weather so far in 2016 has been light rain alternating with sunny days in the 60s to 70s. No additional irrigation will be given this year to see just how drought tolerant the plants chosen will be.
The pollinators garden is in its 3rd year along a southwest facing wall. It receives sun at its most intense aspect. The house’s siding adds to the intensity with light reflecting paint and bricks that soak up heat. In the height of summer it’s necessary to block this heat and reflection. I hope to purchase a couple tall thin grasses to do that work for me. They must be tall but narrow. The honeysuckle meant to cover some of the brick has a hard time with the intensity. When we get new siding I will definitely spend time looking for a color and finish with less reflection.
